Court allows Sowore bail, gives reason

On Tuesday, an Abuja Federal High Court awarded bail to Omoyele Sowore, co-convener of the RevolutionNow movement.

The Taiwo-led court of Justice Taiwo said that there was no longer a surviving order holding Sowore in custody, hence the need for bail.

However, while releasing him to his lawyer, Femi Falana, Justice Taiwo instructed Sowore to deposit his international passport to the tribunal.

The judge ruled that after he was notified of the charge against him, Falana should be liable for creating him in court.

He said the law provides for all Nigerians ‘ liberty irrespective of their financial or political status.

Justice Taiwo said in a brief decision: “The court order has expired. It was not renewed and could not be renewed in perspective of the previously withdrawn ex-parte movement.

“The constitution guarantees the freedom of all Nigerians, high or low, poor or rich. It is for this purpose that I believe the defendant should be released immediately. “The AAC 2019 presidential candidate had been detained by the State Services Department, DSS, following Sowore’s call for revolution.

The protests continued in pockets of places despite Sowore’s detention.
